Born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, Deanna grew up with a soccer ball at her feet and a creative mind that never stopped running. The game brought her south of the border to Washington D.C. — and what started as a passion became a 15-year career as a professional coach. She loved the game, but what she loved most was the people. Teaching, mentoring, motivating — helping young players navigate life through the lessons that sport teaches you better than any classroom. Off the field she was always making something. Music, painting, drawing, thrifting, DIY projects. Her happiest moments were creating thoughtful, meaningful things for the people around her. For years she carried a quiet dream — to one day build a company making things she believed in. Things that actually meant something to people.

She just needed the right idea.
 

While playing semi-pro soccer in Colorado, Deanna started doing something a little unconventional at the grocery store. She was "borrowing" the elastic rubber bands from the asparagus bundles — writing motivational messages on them and gifting them to her teammates before games. No budget. No grand plan. Just a rubber band, a marker, and a message she thought someone needed to hear.

She didn't expect much. But her teammates loved them. They wore them. They talked about them. A humble rubber band from the produce aisle was somehow doing what expensive gear and elaborate team-building never could — connecting people and reminding them why they were there.

That moment never left her.

13 years later she fine-tuned the idea, perfected the product, and Refocus Bands® were born. What started with asparagus is now on the wrists of athletes, students, teachers, veterans, nonprofits, and anyone who needs a daily reminder to refocus on what matters most.
